It refers to the mother figure, controlling what the child is doing. The conflict is centered in the feminine image, as an element of control – she is watching what someone is doing and evaluating it.

What to Expect

The central conflict of the story should be the woman. Who is she? What is she looking for? Why?

The instance of Superego: The woman (mother) is represented as an instance of the superego (morality). She surprises a transgressive scene. The picture relates to the libidinal movements and sexual curiosity, and the ensuing guilt from the subject about it. The mother is judging the bad behavior.
