TAT Cards – Picture 7BM: A younger man looking into nothing, and an older man looking at him.

Manifest Content

There are two adult men with a clear generational difference. The youngest one is looking into space, and the older one is looking at him.

Latent Content

This card appeals to a father-son relationship. The conflict is around the proximity of the two characters, generating topics such as tenderness or opposition. It focuses on the ambivalence of feelings from the son towards his father.

What to Expect

The stories are often about the rivalry between the two characters. It can also suggest proximity caused by the unconditional love and support of the father.

The most important is the way the son sees his father. How is his investment in the father figure? Is it seen as positive or negative?

Ambivalence issues: Sometimes, the subject may have some difficulties in elaborating the ambivalence. We are all supposed to understand that our parents are good and bad, like everybody else. This subject avoids confronting it, making an unrealistic relationship – either perfect or terrible at all times.
